The program is not a general introduction to language or linguistics, nor is it about second language pedagogy. Rather, the program stresses that teachers who gain insights into the structure and use of their native languages can more clearly see differences in the foreign language they are teaching. In short, the objective is to provide the teacher/learner with what he or she needs to know about language in general in order to study a particular language more effectively.
