Ohio’s Tests: Teachers can prepare their students for state tests by providing instruction related to all Ohio Learning Standards for their courses and grade levels. Although Ohio is developing new tests in English language arts and mathematics, the Ohio Learning Standards remain in these and all other subject areas. Posted below are resources outlining how educators can fully integrate Ohio’s Learning Standards into their classrooms using materials for their curriculum and instruction in each content area.

Third Grade Reading Guarantee:Ohio's Third Grade Reading Guarantee is a program to identify students from kindergarten through grade 3 that are behind in reading. Schools will provide help and support to make sure students are on track for reading success by the end of third grade. The department provides policy guidance, instructional tools, and resources on the Third Grade Reading Guarantee.

OTES: Ohio Teacher Evaluation System is research-based and designed to be transparent, fair and adaptable to the specific contexts of Ohio’s districts (rural, urban, suburban, large and small). The evaluation system builds on what educators know about the importance of ongoing assessment and feedback as a powerful vehicle to support improved practice.

Two key components of Ohio's evaluation system are a rating of teacher performance(based on classroom observations and other factors) and a rating of student academic growth.

OPES: Ohio's new system for evaluating principals (Ohio's Principal Evaluation System - OPES) will provide educators with a richer and more detailed view of their performance, with a focus on specific strengths and opportunities for improvement.

Ohio Department of Education: Using the search box at the home page of ODE is most helpful when looking for information or resources.

Graduation Requirements:In June 2014, the Ohio General Assembly created new graduation requirements for students entering the ninth grade for the first time in the 2014-2015 school year. The General Assembly also charged the State Board of Education and Ohio Department of Education staff with creating the many rules and policy decisions needed to guide local implementation.

Credit Flexibility: With “Credit Flex,” students will be able to show what they know and move on to higher-order content they are ready to learn and have not yet mastered. They will be able to learn subject matter and earn course credit in ways not limited solely to “seat time” or the walls of a school building. They will be able to customize aspects of their learning around their interests and needs, which might include flexible schedules and a choice of modalities (e.g., online learning and community-based projects), as well as options to pursue niche interest areas, combine subjects and graduate early

Early Learning: October 9, 2012, the State Board of Education adopted Ohio’s Early Learning and Development Standards in all domains of school readiness to reflect the comprehensive development of children beginning at birth to kindergarten entry. The development of these standards represented a collaboration between state agencies serving young children including Ohio Department of Education, Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, Ohio Department of Health, Ohio Department of Mental Health, Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities, and the Governor’s Office of Health Transformation. The state agencies worked with national experts and writing teams made up of Ohio-based content experts and stakeholders to revise and expand the standards.
