Meet Keri and her Registered Behavior Specialist (RBT).
Under the leadership of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst® (BCBA®), the Registered Behavior Technician® (RBT®) role was implemented to enhance behavioral support within specialized educational programming. RBTs are certified paraprofessionals who work under the direct supervision of a BCBA to implement Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies, support skill acquisition, and collect data to guide instructional and behavioral decision-making.
The primary purpose of the RBT position is to provide consistent, hands-on support to both students and staff, helping create safe, structured, and supportive learning environments. RBTs work collaboratively with teachers and intervention teams to respond to behavioral escalation, assist in developing meaningful and motivating learning activities, and ensure behavior intervention strategies are implemented with consistency and fidelity throughout the school day.
By embedding RBT support directly into the classroom, this model strengthens staff capacity, expands access to intensive behavioral services, and promotes positive outcomes for students with complex learning and behavioral needs.
